Hi, my name is Kevin Bambrick.
My recovery journey from gambling addiction began in February 2024. After struggling with a gambling addiction for 18 years, I finally reached out for help through Gordon Moody. That moment marked the beginning of a major turning point in my life.
At the time, I was not only battling addiction, but also serious physical and mental health challenges, all of which I believe were deeply connected. I had completely lost myself and went through an extremely difficult period, including three suicide attempts.
With a great deal of hard work, determination, and support from good people around me, I slowly began to rebuild my life.
In 2025, I was sent to prison, where I served almost eight months. Although it was a difficult experience, it also gave me the time and strength to continue working on myself and my recovery.
Since then, I have transformed my life. I lost over 30kg in weight, overcame diabetes, coeliac disease complications, and blood pressure issues, and my mental health has continued to improve day by day.
Recovery is something I work on every single day, because I truly believe it is a “one day at a time” process.
Today, I share my story to offer lived-experience support and guidance to anyone struggling with gambling addiction, poor mental or physical health, or challenges within the criminal justice system. If my experiences can help even one person avoid or overcome what I went through, then sharing my story is worth it.
Take care,
Kev

Hi, my name is David. I began experiencing gambling addiction and compulsive behaviours from around the age of 17–18. Over many years, I made numerous attempts to seek help and overcome my addiction, often struggling to sustain both short‑ and long‑term recovery.
In 2019, I attended residential treatment with Gordon Moody, which became a decisive turning point for me. Unlike previous attempts, this time I was able to fully accept and understand my illness. I also began to recognise the impact addiction had had on my life, my relationships, and those around me. I committed myself to listening, learning, and taking responsibility for creating the life I deserved.
Since that time, I have lived a life of recovery. As with many recovery journeys, mine has included challenges and setbacks. In 2022, I experienced a relapse. However, with greater self‑awareness and practical recovery tools, I was able to understand what had gone wrong, take action quickly, and re‑engage with my recovery. I have continued to live a stable and fulfilling life in recovery since then.
For me, gambling was a form of escapism, rooted in an inability to process emotions or speak openly about difficulties, problems, or feelings. Through recovery, I have learned healthier ways to understand myself, manage my emotions, and connect with others. Every day and every situation continues to be a learning experience, allowing me to grow and develop my awareness, my relationships, and myself as a whole.
Today, I am passionate about sharing my lived experience of addiction, recovery, and relapse, with the aim of helping and supporting others who may be struggling.
